Model RIO-24 is a ready-for-use Digital I/O solution with 24-bits in any combination of inputs or high-current outputs. The unit is housed in a steel enclosure and interfaces to a controlling computer through a wireless link, USB converter, or an RS-232 port via RS-485 converter. The core of the RIO-24 is our RDG-24 RS-485 Digital Input/Output REMOTE ACCES Pod. Typical applications include remote data acquisition and control of switches, relays and more.

SOFTWARE SUPPORT

A Windows based application is included that allows for establishing communication, quick setup and testing of I/O. The program displays all 24 inputs and outputs simultaneously, and allows for one-click direction configuration. Full source code is provided, as well as a number of other samples in a variety of languages to demonstrate techniques for developing custom applications for logic functions, etc. The RIO-24 can also be used as a stand-alone controller with the help of our Firmware Development Kit.

VERSIONS

Model RIO-24-W includes a Wireless transceiver set. On the computer side, the Wireless module is powered by a wall adapter and plugs directly into an RS-232 port. It includes a wire antenna, and no software is needed, thus making the Wireless link transparent to the user. On the Remote side, the unit has a Wireless transceiver installed in the lid of the protective metal enclosure which is then wired into the I/O Pod. One AC/DC supply is included with this which plugs into 115VAC and powers all the electronics of the I/O and the Wireless module. The unit ships with a power cable and DB9 connector to plug into the DC output of the supply. Alternately, if no AC power is available at the remote site, a battery can be purchased instead of the AC/DC supply.

The Wireless version is handy for systems where you need to add a remote alarm or pick up a contact closure at some distance from a PC, without running any wires. Different ranges are possible with different antennas, from a couple-hundred feet up to 7 miles with a clear line of site. A Spread-Spectrum un-licensed radio set is used with a frequency hopping feature for higher reliability.

Model RIO-24-U is packaged for connection to a USB port. This solution uses the PC power supply through a spare Molex connector, to our PC-POWER-OUT cable which installs with a card mounting bracket that has a DB9F connector on it. Mating to the DB9F is a fused power cable which connects +12V to the power input of the RDG-24. Communications with the host computer are accomplished via our USB-485 converter to a cable wired up to the serial data screw terminals on the RDG-24.

Model RIO-24-S is packaged for connection to an RS-232 port via an RS-232 to RS-485 converter. This solution also uses the PC power supply through a spare Molex connector, to our PC-POWER-OUT cable which installs with a card mounting bracket that has a DB9F connector on it. Mating to the DB9F is a fused power cable which connects +12V to the power input of the RDG-24.

Model RIO-24-E is packaged for connection to a Ethernet port. This solution uses the PC power supply through a spare Molex connector, to our PC-POWER-OUT cable which installs with a card mounting bracket that has a DB9F connector on it. Mating to the DB9F is a fused power cable which connects +12V to the power input of the RDG-24. Communications with the host computer are accomplished via our ethernet to 485 module wired directly to the serial data screw terminals on the RDG-24.
