RoHS Compliance Statement
ACCES I/O Products is committed to providing our customers with environmentally friendly products compliant with the European Union RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive. The RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) addresses the design phase of products and aims to restrict the use of six hazardous substances from electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), for the protection of human health and the environment. The main requirement of the RoHS regulation is that from July 1, 2006 a manufacturer may not put a new EEE containing lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), in amounts exceeding the set maximum concentration values, on the market in the EU. To meet this directive, all components within a product must be examined to assess levels of restricted substances.
Because our products are classified as “Monitoring and Control Instruments” (Category 9 of the RoHS directive) they are currently excluded from the regulations.
Scope of restrictions in Article 2 of the RoHS Directive:
- 1. Without prejudice to Article 6, this Directive shall apply to electrical and electronic equipment falling under the categories 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 set out in Annex IA to Directive No 2002/96/EC (WEEE) and to electric light bulbs, and luminaires in households.
Consequently, all Category 9 products are excluded from restrictions under the scope of the RoHS directive.
Category 9 is defined as follows:
- 9. Monitoring and control instruments
- Smoke detector
- Heating regulators
- Thermostats
- Measuring, weighing or adjusting appliances for household or as laboratory equipment
- Other monitoring and control instruments used in industrial installations (e.g. in control panels)
However, ACCES recognizes the environmental value of the RoHS directive and has actively been reducing inventory of components which use these hazardous substances. While many companies have decided to hide under these exemptions, our engineering departments have been designing new products using RoHS compliant components since January, 2006. In addition, the majority of our current product line has begun the transition to RoHS compliant versions. During this transition period, if a RoHS compliant product is required please discuss this need with one of our sales application engineers. ACCES has customers that require either RoHS or non-RoHS compliant products. Therefore we make both of these available for sale. If you require RoHS products, please specify RoHS on the product line of your orders. Note, RoHS products have a small price premium. Call for price information.
ACCES will actively work with our customers and partners during this transition to make sure we meet their needs. In most cases, our customers do not require RoHS compliant products. These customers include those who use our products for development, prototyping, or production of their end products. Many of our OEM customers which integrate an ACCES product in their system come to find their end product may be classified as either Category 8 or 9 and therefore exempt. If you have any questions or concerns regarding RoHS compliance and our products do not hesitate to call us at (800) 326-1649 or email us at contactus@accesio.com.
