INSTALL.TXT - Installation Instructions for DOS, Win3.x, Win9x, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP, Win2003, Linux Win 9x, Win Me, Win NT, Win 2000, Win XP, Win 2003: If your computer did not automatically start the installation program when you inserted the CD, you may have autoplay disabled. Run INSTALL.EXE from the root directory of the CD-ROM drive. The installation program will walk you through the process of installing software for your card, as well as give you the option to view this readme or visit our Website. The installation program will install several manuals in PDF format, and place links to them in your Start menu. For low-level programming information about our various drivers, please refer to the "Software Reference Manual", while for hardware specific information about your product, refer to the product manual provided. DOS, Win3.x: No install program for DOS is provided on the CD. To install the required package(s), manually copy the files: xcopy [CDdrive]:\disks\[ProductName]\*.* [destpath] /s For a set of tools useful for many of our products, manually xcopy [CDdrive]:\disks\tools\*.* [destpath] /s If using a PCI card, also xcopy [CDdrive]:\disks\tools.pci\*.* [destpath] /s Some of the [ProductName]s may not be obvious due to DOS 8.3 naming limitations; the file [CDdrive]:\disks\disks.ini contains a lookup table from model number to directory name. Alternately, feel free to contact us for assistance. Linux: This version of our software CD provides samples for some cards, information on converting other cards' DOS samples to Linux, and information on generic support provided with Linux. For complete information, see the linux/linux.html file. Upgrades We are continually developing new software, so the latest code may not be on the CD. To get the latest software, first install the software package from the CD. Then, run UPGRADE.EXE located in the software package's directory in the Start Menu. This program will automatically download the latest software. Known Issues 1. Windows NT, 2000, and XP users must install from an Administrator level account. Workaround: Windows NT, 2000, and XP users must install from an Administrator level account. The setup program copies device drivers and tools into various NT system directories. This must be done from an Administrator level account. Otherwise, an error message will be displayed, and installation will not complete successfully. Fix: Make sure you are logged in with Administrator access rights before attempting to install the CD software. 2. Certain packages, such as the PCI-ISA, require additional installation steps. Please refer to Readme.txt file in the package directory for information about the extra installation steps. Other Stuff Several useful directories exist on the Software Master CD that are not involved directly in the installation process: The "Acrobat" directory contains several versions of Adobe's Acrobat reader for your use. The "ChipDocs" directory contains chip specs for some of the more complex parts used in our products.
