FindBase Version 1.50 This program simplifies base address selection for your data acquisition/control product. It scans your computer's I/O ports for available locations which would be suitable for the particular card you want to install. To use the program for the first time, make sure you have installed the software package as usual. Log into the drive and directory where the FindBase program is installed (where this file is), and type FINDBASE [ENTER], then select the card from the list shown. This will begin an automatic scan of I/O space for a block of unused addresses sufficient in size for the card in question. FindBase will not necessarily detect all cards in the system. For example, some digital input cards and some analog output cards may not be detected. When the program detects such an opening, it will pause and ask you to confirm the selection. If you accept the address shown (by pressing [ENTER]), you can run the setup program, and use the number shown in FindBase as the base address. If for some reason you do not choose to accept the first choice, you can press [SPACEBAR] to have the program continue scanning until it finds the next available location. WARNING: Due to the nature of some hardware, particularly network cards, this program may lock-up when scanning for available base addresses. This happens when the program reads a port, and the card at that address demands action in response, which will not occur. If the program should "hang", look at the lowest line on the screen. This line shows the value you should enter in a new FindBase command line when you restart the program. By doing so, you will force the program to start scanning for addresses from a location that should be past that of the offending card. If it locks up again, just restart with the new address shown. Example: FINDBASE 320 [ENTER] -- will start scanning at Hex 320. Note: Most ACCES samples expect the card to be located at base address 300. If you intend to run these samples without modifying the source code, you may want to install the card at this address. List of Files in program: FINDBASE.EXE FINDBASE.DAT FINDBASE.TXT
