Please step through each of the options which pertain to your card to insure that your card is configured as you desire. / Configuration options for the COM-2S include: Base address Interrupt level Echo Option Auto RTS Option Termination RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 communication protocol ][ THelpTopic3 Options Base Address The Base Address command under the Options menu will guide you through the process of selecting an appropriate I/O port base address for your I/O card. ][ THelpTopic- Options IRQ Level 2The COM-2S has the ability to generate an interrupt when one of the input channels experiences a change of state. The IRQ Level selection option under Options menu will guide you through the process of configuring your COM-2S to generate the interrupt signal you require whenever a change of state occurs. ][ THelpTopic# Options Echo The COM-2S allows you to select whether the card leaves the receive line on. This means that every character that is transmitted is also received by the port (i.e. echoed back). In RS-232 mode, this is automatic, so it would be redundant to install the jumper when in that mode. ][ THelpTopic+ Options Auto RTS kThe COM-2S allows you to select whether the card will control the RTS line through hardware or not. On standard RS422/485 cards, software must control the Ready To Send (RTS) line in order to specify whether the software will be transmitting data or listening for it. The COM-2S will automatically set and clear this line for you when this jumper is installed. ][ THelpTopic; Options Port Termination /The COM-2S allows termination where necessary. ][ THelpTopicG Options Communication Protocol The COM-2S allows you to select whether the card will use the RS-232 protocol, the RS-422 protocol, or the RS-485 protocol. RS-232 is what is found in most Personal Computers. It is the type of connection that serial ports in PCs use. There are limitations to this specification, so the RS-422 protocol was defined. This type of connection allows longer distances, but is also limited to a two node connection. RS-485 allows multiple nodes, and is a two-wire connection, making it very flexible. ][ THelpTopic# Options BIAS `The COM-2S allows selection of a -BIAS and +BIAS. This allows a greater pull-down and pull-up. ][ THelpTopic# Options Exit HThe Exit command terminates the application and returns control to DOS. ][ THelpTopic3 Base Address Selection In order for communication to be established between your I/O card and its host computer, the I/O card must be assigned a base I/O port address. Select an available address, then configure your card's address switch to match the switch settings in the diagram. ][ THelpTopic9 Interrupt Level Selection The COM-2S has the ability to generate an interrupt when one of the input channels experiences a change of state. Use the arrow keys or the mouse to select the IRQ signal you require whenever a state change is detected, then install the appropriate jumper as illustrated in the diagram. ][ THelpTopic9 Wait State Selection ][ THelpTopic' Ŀ [ Ok ] q If you select this button, the selections that you've made in the dialog box are recorded by the setup program. H If this is the default button, you need only press Enter to choose it. ][ THelpTopic- Ŀ [Cancel] _ If you select this button, nothing changes and no action occurs but the dialog box is closed. g ESC is always the keyboard shortcut for the Cancel button, even if the Cancle button does not appear. ][ THelpTopic][ THelpTopic][ THelpTopic/ COM-2S Setup Program Welcome to the COM-2S setup program.
